Hi,

I hope you all are doing well, if you are wondering why this random mail is in your inbox, the answer to the above is simple. It has been a long-standing dream to initiate MB- LEAD newsletters to supplement your leadership experience, hoping to evolve them further soon. Most of all, this mail is denotes the stand to be honest and transparent about leadership.

Some basic expectations from the mail:

  • This might be hit you hard, give you that empty stomach feeling or maybe it will just be one of those mails that you’d read and (pretend to) acknowledge
  • Do NOT reply to this mail, this isn’t meant to be replied to, this is for your eyes and the inner journey alone, read it, absorb it, reflect and grow
  • Do NOT discuss this mail amongst each other, keep it to yourself, yes, it will be a challenge to NOT talk about it, especially because it will create a heavy tendency to share, the idea is NOT to share, the idea is solely to reflect and analyse oneself
  • This mail does not give you the right to judge each other, don’t do that either, if you really have to, then judge yourself and make the right leadership call

Metal rods have been an avid part of PU elections; their subtle use in destroying the will of the opposition through sheer force has been truly unparalleled, I am sure you get the reference. But there is one small thing that can truly tarnish the strength of the same rod, we call it rust, a rusted rod can break at the coming of the first real challenge. Rust, as is said, creeps and grows deep within the structure of iron, where from the outside it looks sharp, from within, it weakens, becomes hollow and eventually breaks.

The same is the case with corruption; corruption here refers to the slight yet significant cultural defect that our LC has suffered in the recent past. So greetings, welcome to the first real eye-opener, welcome to your state of being.

I understand that most of you have had a turbulent year, I understand it has given you inhibitions and a self-righteous tone of ignorance, I also understand that you have been affected gravely by the actions of people around you.

But what I cannot understand is this:

  • Has that given you the right to sit and gossip? To only sit and chill, to sit and carry forward a chit-chat on how the things always seem to go wrong?
  • Has that given you the right to become extremely impolite, impractical and politically motivated to pass judgement on your leadership?
  • Has performance given you the right to feel bigger than the organization?
  • Has long-standing presence given you the right to judge ‘connect’, break it at will and then pretend to forge it?
  • Have intellect and knowledge given you the right to become arrogant and disobedient?
  • Have personal bonds given you the right to protect and give undue credit to those who do not deserve it?
  • Have your personal inhibitions given you the right to tarnish team vision and purpose?
  • Since when did motivation become negative? Since when did purpose become weak? Since when did ambition crumble in front of adversity?
  • Ask yourself, since when did your targets become bigger than you? So big that now, you ignore them, you abhor them, abstain from them, when was the last time you checked your goals? When was the last time you made an effort to fulfil your role, both in your personal and professional life?
  • Since when did you decide to stop sharing? When was the last time you shared selflessly? When was the last time you made your members smile? When was the last time you had a day so long, so tough that it made you fall down and sleep?

Sadly, these are the things I have witnessed in our MB, in us. So take a deep breath, go look into the mirror, or just plain ask yourself. Are you as pure and genuine as that new recruit who joined this organization? Are you as enthusiastic and loud as that new recruit who jived thoroughly at their RYLC? Are you the same person who fell in love with AIESEC the day you did?

Because trust me, you are not. Because trust me, no matter how cool and lively your chillouts might seem, you have, and yes, most you have, stopped ‘enjoying’ AIESEC.

It is funny how most of our membership is still pure; we are truly lucky in that way. But,for how long? The mental block, the state of being, the stagnation of thought that we have developed, will hit us, and it will hit us really soon. And like that metal rod, we will not be able to overcome that challenge; some of us will break, while the others will fade away.

I write this mail to beseech you, to pray to that ray of hope, that silver lining that still lies within you. If you have seen/heard/been a part of/witnessed/participated/thought of/done any of the above, because I am sure you have, now is the time to stop, now is the time to think, to reflect.
Look inside you, you might be smart, you might be naïve but what unites us all, is still the undying love for this LC

I write this, to pray to that new recruit, that still lies within you, bring it back, leave the arrogance and ignorance behind, leave all your fears, bury the hatchet, destroy the inhibitions and look forward to a new start. We know December will be difficult, hell, it will be critical, and whatever may be, I still can’t promise you a position or recognition, but I can promise you an invincible 2014.
Break those mental barriers, relive those dreams that once made you come alive, forget what ‘others’ say, listen closely to your leadership, listen to the ones you always loved, rediscover your pure ways of being, become soulful all over again ^_^

Today I speak using the word ‘I’, soon, it will become ‘we’. My promise still holds, to build that invincible leadership that will drive this LC forward. I hope, in our journey, you choose to tag along J

Another reminder: DO NOT reply/acknowledge the mail!

P.S. less than 6 days to the deadline
