SomehowDave Garbett, the cinematographer behind Evil Dead Rise, was able to make gore and the scariest situations look utterly stunning. Horror movies can truly become perfect in the way they are filmed and this movie had some excellent shots that had me impressed, from that first shot of Ellie stepping out of the bath and screaming, to that final moment with the chainsaw, to everything else.

The acting in this film is so good. So good. I swear, it felt like every actor was having the time of their lives while filming Evil Dead Rise. It really takes a lot from an actor to act utterly evil in one moment and terrified in the next, and the whole Evil Dead Rise cast truly brought so much to the table.

Sutherland captured the perfect vision of terror before switching over into evil so quickly, and somehow did it while making it feel realistic as well. She was what kept me watching this movie because it was so good. I loved it.

As the group continue to listen to an old man speaking in Latin, the words suddenly conjure something evil within the woods. As a result, each person is possessed by a demon that was summoned by the Book of the Dead, meanwhile Ash tries to find a way to escape from the haunted cabin that becomes rather difficult when his possessed girlfriend tries to kill him. One thing leads to another and everything turns completely pear shaped, as the holiday retreat gradually turns into a disastrous blood bath.

So I do find the visual effects rather impressive especially for a film with such a low budget, what I do find rather unsettling are the camera angles. The film provides the perspective of the demon, evil spirits that lurk around the cabin and the fast paced motion does create a level of suspense and anticipation. Bruce Campbell does play an excellent role as Ash Williams, the main protagonist who finds himself trapped within the deserted cabin with his girlfriend, sister and best friend that are all possessed by some kind of Demon.

I personally believe that Sam Raimi has produced a very successful horror film with a low budget and a very small production team, which is quite remarkable really. There were some aspects of the film that did cause me to jump, although the acting and the visual effects do provide a level of humour, that do cause me to laugh uncontrollably.

So if you are looking for something to watch then I would recommend watching The Evil Dead Trilogy, you can even watch the original Evil Dead and the Army of Darkness on Youtube! The DVD cover for Evil Dead 2 does feature some impressive advertising / marketing, the very front of the cover features a skull that significantly contrasts with the dark background, the advertisement definitely summaries the nature of the film.

Evil Dead is an American comedy horror franchise created by Sam Raimi consisting of five feature films and a television series. The series originally revolves around the grimoire the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, an ancient Sumerian text that wreaks havoc upon a group of cabin inhabitants in a wooded area in Tennessee.

The film franchise was resurrected in 2013 with Evil Dead, both a reboot and a loose continuation of the series directed by Fede lvarez, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. It was produced by Raimi, Campbell and Tapert, featuring a new protagonist in Mia Allen (Jane Levy). The filmmaker stated that the project used over 6,500 liters of fake blood during production.[13] Evil Dead Rise was theatrically released on April 21, 2023.[14][7]

In March 2023, Sam Raimi expressed interest in developing multiple sequels with Bruce Campbell reprising his role as Ash Williams in a starring role, while also expressing hope for future developments also featuring Mia Allen from Evil Dead (2013).[15] Later that month, Campbell stated that after positive experiences as a producer on Evil Dead Rise, he would consider reprising his lead role in a future film if Raimi were to return as director, reversing his previous "retirement" from the role following the cancellation of Ash vs Evil Dead.[16]

By April of the same year, writer/director Lee Cronin stated that he has ideas for a series of future Evil Dead installments serving as direct sequels to Evil Dead Rise, that he hopes to see realized.[17] That same month, Campbell announced that Sam and Ivan Raimi were co-writing a bible to outline the future of the franchise; stating that films that follow will adhere to the overall outline, with current plans including releasing a new film in the franchise "every couple" years, as opposed to the most recent activity of once every decade.[18]

In February 2024, it was announced that a spin-off film is currently in development. Sbastien Vaniček will serve as director from a script he co-wrote with Florent Bernard.[19] Selected by Raimi to helm the new installment in the series, the film's plot is currently under wraps. Ash vs Evil Dead proved to be a critically well-received show, earning a 98% from Rotten Tomatoes. Four days before its premiere, the show was picked up for a second ten-episode season.[24] The series lasted for three seasons (30 episodes) before it was canceled by Starz in April 2018.
