Greetings from the Mayfair Civic Association! We hope you are faring well and have been able to secure a vaccination appointment at one of the many sites throughout the City.

The Mayfair Civic Association will be holding its next monthly membership meeting this Thursday, May 13 at 6:30pm. The meeting will be hosted on Zoom, to follow social distancing and stay-at-home measures due to Covid-19. The Zoom meeting details are at the bottom of this email.

Our last meeting featured a discussion of pending issues on the Congressional level led by Congressman Mike Quigley, including the Covid vaccination roll-out, pending gun safety initiatives prompted by recent shootings, HR-1 election reform efforts, and the proposed infrastructure bill. Erika Wozniak, aide to Alderman Samantha Nugent, provided a 39th Ward update on topics including vaccinations at Mayfair Commons and the Muslim Center, and continuing work on the Montrose bridge.

We discussed ongoing construction throughout the neighborhood, including two new homes on Kenneth, and substantial rehabbing along Keokuk. We also noted the continuing demolition of the old Vosnos restaurant building at Montrose and Elston, and Chris Lambesis provided a Development & Zoning report on the development at 4865 N. Elston.

Tom Keating noted that garden plantings are now beginning, and he and Wally Eliasen will oversee a small group of volunteers. Gabby Lambesis ordered and is distributing the plants and planting materials. Wally noted graffiti on the new apartment building just east of the library and removal of the garbage can north of the Lawrence and across from the service station. Erika said she would arrange for power washing and she also said she would look into replacement of the garbage can, which may have occurred during recent People’s Gas work.

Many residents have noticed and are excited about Park District work that has started on the Kedvale Playlot. We will provide an update and renderings at our next meeting, but several photos are available for all to see, and a graphic of the park layout can be found here. We will also discuss the Kemora Landscaping proposal for a new facility at 4635 W Lawrence. Renderings of facility can also be found here. They will not operate as a retail garden center, but will conduct design and consulting services at the facility at Lawrence and Knox.

Please plan to attend to address any concerns you have regarding any matter identified above. If you have questions or comments about the upcoming meeting or topics you'd like to discuss, please send an email to Ron Duplack, MCA President, at rdup...@rieckcrotty.com. Hope to see you on Zoom.
