Here are brief highlights from our Zoom Membership Meeting on November 13, 2025:
Ron Duplack reported that our Day of the Dead celebration scheduled for November 1 in Triangle Park, featuring Ballet Folklorico de Mexico and Rebecca Wu, was cancelled. Just before the date, numerous disruptive raids were conducted by ICE at various events in the City, including a children’s Halloween parade in Irving Park where tear gas and other dangerous crowd suppression efforts were employed. Discussion with performers, the 39th Ward and the Mayfair Park Supervisor resulted in unanimous decision to re-schedule the event to protect all involved. Further notice to be provided once an alternate date, time, and place are set.
It was noted that an anti-ICE petition has been circulating by various civic and community groups and a member volunteered to seek a copy for our review and consideration.
The focus of the meeting was set on planning our Annual Party scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on December 11. We expect to begin with a dance performance by Thwack Dance Company in Mayfair Park Fieldhouse, followed by drinks at the IAHC, like we did last year. Members volunteered to assist staging and promotion of the free event to neighbors. A notice is provided below. We encourage all to bring family and neighbors.
We also encourage all to attend the 17th District Breakfast with Santa Event scheduled for 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20 at the District Station. Seats are limited so RSVP is encouraged. See announcement below.
Please check out the Mayfair Park garden commemorating Wally Eliason. Kemora Landscaping has installed plantings and stone walkways. It recently completed the final step of installing two hand-crafted log benches.
We seek additional volunteers to maintain the several gardens and bump-outs still managed by the Civic. We also seek a Newsletter Editor. Please let us know if you are interested!
HOPE TO SEE YOU DECEMBER 11 AND 20!
