Rainmeteris a free and open-source desktop customization utility for Windows, released under the GNU GPL v2 license. It allows users to create and display user-generated customizable desktop widgets or applets called "skins" that display information.

And that might be enough for you. Some people just use Rainmeter to keep an eye on system resources, and in fact a large number of the most aesthetically pleasing and most popular Rainmeter skins contain skins that are used for that very purpose. An example would be NXT-OS:

Sometimes you want to have a skin that can remulate a movie or video game:

A very popular choice amongst Rainmeter hackers, the Jarvis/SHIELD OS skin copies the GUI from the successful Ironman movie franchise and while it's quite full on, if you're a fan of Ironman it's something you'd like. There's other "suites" of skins like the Jarvis one for Star Wars (for example).

I've messed around with Rainmeter for a good four years now, and I've shifted my design mentality towards a more minimalistic style than I had before. I've got a ton of skins and I'll be sharing them to Github if you'd like to check them out; however there's only about 4 or 5 skin sets (more commonly referred to as suites) that I have in my current setup.

I'd like to get into designing and creating my own rainmeter skins one day, but for now I make do with browsing the Rainmeter category on DeviantArt and there's tons of talented individuals there. I'd also recommend checking out the official Rainmeter group on Deviantart.

This is one of the largest and most popular suites across the entire internet. It really fits the bill as a suite as after installing it a settings pane opens up and it sort of feels as if you're installing a software update on your computer. Some of the best skins it includes are:

One of the really cool things about this is it comes with two different modes: "Pollux" and "Castor", with the former being (by default) for games and the latter being for work. When I first read about Gemini I heard that it included an automatic linking to your steam account (like NXT-OS does), however I had to edit the .ini files instead as I couldn't figure out a way to add my games and apps automatically. I'll probably need to edit it again in the future as I didn't realise there was a quick toggle option to switch between Pollux & Castor, and I ended up with 4 games and 4 work apps on Pollux; I'll be fixing this up and sharing it with you in an edited version of this article.

svchost process on Windows 10 64b is taking 10-13% of CPU, all the time (older i5). If I stop service Audiosrv in that process (I'm using Process hacker) then it drops to zero. No sound is being played and it seems that is has no effect if there is audio being produced.

I tried reinstalling audio drivers (integrated sound card on motherboard and NVidia drivers for HDMI output). I also have an USB audio card, but I have never installed any drivers for it and it was working fine on Windows 7 64b and also on this Windows 10 64b for some time.

Any ideas how to fix this, so the service doesn't consume CPU power doing nothing? Current workaround is cumbersome - killing audio service and starting it only when I actually need audio. Also I think it has negative impact on games' performance.

Someone who seeks and exploits weaknesses in a computer system or computer network, a hacker. Featuring cool art work from a variety of sources depicting the hacker subculture with the classic green text, binaries as well as the anonymous and black hats and programming core of the culture in this symbolic theme.

This theme pack consists of several HD Hacker wallpapers acting as a slideshow that changes every 30 mins along with a Windows color scheme change. All wallpapers are of 19201080 resolution or more and will fit both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.

Google continues to struggle with cybercriminals running malicious ads on its search platform to trick people into downloading booby-trapped copies of popular free software applications. The malicious ads, which appear above organic search results and often precede links to legitimate sources of the same software, can make searching for software on Google a dicey affair.

Google says keeping users safe is a top priority, and that the company has a team of thousands working around the clock to create and enforce their abuse policies. And by most accounts, the threat from bad ads leading to backdoored software has subsided significantly compared to a year ago.

How do we know freecad-us[.]org is malicious? A review at DomainTools.com show this domain is the newest (registered Jan. 19, 2024) of more than 200 domains at the Internet address 93.190.143[.]252 that are confusingly similar to popular software titles, including dashlane-project[.]com, filezillasoft[.]com, keepermanager[.]com, and libreofficeproject[.]com.

Some of the domains at this Netherlands host appear to be little more than software review websites that steal content from established information sources in the IT world, including Gartner, PCWorld, Slashdot and TechRadar.

Other domains at 93.190.143[.]252 do serve actual software downloads, but none of them are likely to be malicious if one visits the sites through direct navigation. If one visits openai-project[.]org and downloads a copy of the popular Windows desktop management application Rainmeter, for example, the file that is downloaded has the same exact file signature as the real Rainmeter installer available from rainmeter.net.

But this is only a ruse, says Tom Hegel, principal threat researcher at the security firm Sentinel One. Hegel has been tracking these malicious domains for more than a year, and he said the seemingly benign software download sites will periodically turn evil, swapping out legitimate copies of popular software titles with backdoored versions that will allow cybercriminals to remotely commander the systems.

Hegel noted that the spike in malicious software-themed ads came not long after Microsoft started blocking by default Office macros in documents downloaded from the Internet. He said the volume of the current malicious ad campaigns from this group appears to be relatively low compared to a year ago.

But it remains a mystery why Google has not similarly blocked more than 240+ other domains at this same host, or else removed them from its search index entirely. Especially considering there is nothing else but these domains hosted at that Netherlands IP address, and because they have all remained at that address for the past year.

A lot of these sites also use server side scripting, that if it detects the request came from google or any of the virus scanner sites, it will deliver a safe version always. then for all other sites it will randomly deliver the malware, to keep from triggering the blocks.

Even your own typing could contain a mistake, which sometimes leads to a host created with exactly that spelling mistake, for dishonest purposes. So the safest of all is to only use your own bookmarks, created after you have very carefully typed in each hostname only once. But few are willing to sacrifice that much convenience of course. Me neither.

Okay so i made a temporary fix by disabling one web-parser if the other is trying to get the website. unfortunately it breaks the webparser after a couple updates so i'm going to ask on the rainmeter forum what the best plan would be for this use case. i'll update the code (i also added comments)

well in short i use it on my second monitor, rainmeter opens the map when i start dayz so i dont have to open another website

The chat rainmeter skin checks the germandazy chat so if there is anything happening we can go there, or when we have a fight I can see if anyone posted it on the chat.

I made a skin for rainmeter that reads the chat for latest post and checks the number of players on the server (gametracker.com info so it's not absolutely accurate)

[/img]

Here is the skin file

If you want to use this skin you have to edit the gmail meter (fill in username and password converted to html code and inside layout edit your steamID url to your url + "?xml=1")

Learn How to Crack Passwords. Hackers have developed a whole range of tools to get at your personal data. One of the simplest ways to gain access to your information is through the use of a Brute Force Attack. This is accomplished when a hacker uses a specially written piece of software, such as Ophcrack to attempt to log into a site using your credentials. Ophcrack is a free rainbow-table based cracker for Windows passwords (though the tool itself runs on Linux, Windows, and Mac). I suggest learning the process thieves undergo by trying to crack your own passwords so that you can see how easily it is accomplished, and thus taking proper measures to protect yourself.

Protect Your Data. Your computer is a tool for collecting, creating, and storing important information of all kinds and if it ends up in the wrong hands, you could be faced with a data disaster! Here are four valuable tips for protecting your data:
