When I rename something in 2011 outliner, cursor jumps into filter
field at the top of it for some reasons... I just want to rename and
use a hotkey, to unparent for example - and end up typing into filter
field instead. Is there a way to just do nothing after renaming in
outliner?

P.S. Can't even figure out why I would want to type any filters after
renaming an object...

Same here. Really annoying!

And another thing: How can I influence what files I see in the Maya
file browser? We have the problem that when we want to write out
vrscene (for VRay) and open up the file browser, the maya files
doesn't show up. The "Files of type" option shows me "Filtered Files",
but no other option...

And is there a way to disable the options part in the file browser
window?

Thanx
Lars

wow, hadn't noticed that one, how weird.
I just sent an email to the guy that runs the bugs.thnkr.com site (http://bugs.thnkr.com/view_all_bug_page.php)

but once I get to better internet reception, I'm going to use the maya "report a problem" to send this in.

Maybe that's not a bug, but a new feature of user-friendly
interface ;)

I've found another pretty one - now ctrl+double+click to rename a node
in hypershade and hypergraph creates a special window to input the
name! (which lags, of course) And maya is disabled completely until I
close this window (did Adobe bought Autodesk?). So, to copy a name of
one node and use it to name another one takes a considerable amount of
time and clicking (since this renaming window appears in the middle of
hypershade/hypergraph window which is not really where I always rename
nodes :))

Autodesk, please, no more user-friendlies!

I could use a few more details on the rename in the Outliner problem. Platform for example, would be nice to know. My copy of 2011 HF3 on OS X doesn't have that problem.

As for that hypergraph lockup, keeping the rename popup open in earlier versions also locked up Maya.

winXP x64

In previous versions renaming happens right inside the name field of
the node and you can click away anywhere while it's activated (well,
at least in winXP :)) This new 2011 renaming window needs to be closed
before you can click anywhere else... Actually, I use Esc to close it
now - not that bad, but a step down in usability anyway... And I
suppose that was logical - you click on the name to edit it and you
edit it there, not in some window that appears half a screen away.
Also in previous versions that renaming field adjusts to the length of
the input line... New window has a fixed length and you need to (OMG!)
scroll inside with the cursor, if you have long names...

Mine does

1. Create poly cube
2. Double click name in outliner
3. Type hello
4. Hit Enter

My cursor is now in the Outliner filter field

Renaming in the bottom instance of outliner (the one that can be
opened by dragging the border below) doesn't work at all anymore.

I guess the Mac Version isn't all that bad anymore.. renaming in the bottom outliner works fine in 2011 Hotfiix 3 under  10.6.4.

Actually, I was too hasty... After rebooting my machine now it works
for me also (I restarted maya a couple of times then - didn't solve
the issue).
