nParticle texture rate emission

Hey all-


I’m trying to do that - emission rate based on a texture. I have the texture on a a plane and particles emitting, but when I get to step 7 “Enable Texture Rate” stays grayed out. Anything obvious you can think of why that wouldn’t work or what I might be doing wrong? thanks.

Actually, a follow up on this. When I add a deformer to my particles (i.e. Non-linear Twist) I seem to lose my per particle connections. The particles become all white and opaque. Any idea if that’s expected and how to solve this?
