Bad MASH trail from profile curve?

Also noticing that certain trails connecting MASH points have bad geometry. They are being generated using a simple NURBS circle as a profile curve.


Anything I can do to fix this?

do you have enough samples on your "curve samples", also if you are using 2016.5 I believe there was a bug, not sure if is related to this, but you gotta go to Trail Taper Curve and wiggle thing around.

Actually, I traced it to Up Vector settings in the Curves rollout, which by default has Y set to 1 (nor sure what this does?). Setting all three axes to 0 fixed the issue.


And yes, in this version the Trail Taper Curve is disabled when there is a profile curve input unless the mode is set to Trails, which I assume is a bug. You have to set it back to Trails to edit it, then reset the mode.

Setting all three axes to 0 puts Trails into an ‘experimental’ mode where it tries to work out the best up vector on a per trail basis rather then one size fits all. Your milage may vary.

Thanks Ian, seemed to work pretty well in this case on a cloud of points with noise.
