For the last few days I've been seeing my MASH networks quietly disappear when I hit save.
I have no clue why. I thought I was losing the plot until I watched the outliner.
Any clues?
In that annoying bit where I've worked around it and have a ton to do...but I will make a file if I see it again and it's reproduceable in an isolated example

Wow. Never seen this and I've worked with MASH a lot. I've had endless other problems with MASH -- crashes galore, nodes being added to the wrong networks etc etc, but never networks just vanishing.

What version of Maya are you using?

We are using 2022
I've never seen it before either, seems to be a small number of related scenes. One other artist in the studio has seen it before.
The nodes within the MASH network were still there, like the offset, signal and distribution nodes were still there, just the top level node was missing, mabe the instancer too, can't remember.

I ended up building my mash network in a clean scene (looking at the residual nodes in another Maya) and referecing it in.

This sounds really weird....but if you work in docked panels, sometimes MASH will append a node to the wrong graph, or add your object to the wrong instancer.
HOWEVER!
If you tear off or copy the attribute editor, it's far more robust and does not fuck up in this way.  This makes no obvious sense but I swear it is true and I do not have that problem any more :)

Hmmmmm..... I tend to have a messy UI setup so my menus are usually floating all over the place rather than being docked and I'm pretty sure I've had those issues like nodes going into the wrong network anyway. In fact, I can't be absolutely sure but in same cases I think it's actually turned out to be just a display issue with the UI showing the node in the wrong network, but if you reopened the scene it turned out to be just fine. I'm not sure which is worse though.

Next time I run into that I'll test your theory though 😉

Hey Steve, I just found myself looking at an example of the docked/undocked issue...I've attetched a snip of it.
The docked and undocked attribute editors are the same node
don't mind the thick red marker, I'm not angry posting :)

I indeed found that issue too, and it is very annoying, you can't trust the interface!
