Morning !

Wondering if there is anyone out there that has experience importing alembic files from speedtree to maya successfully ?

We are having trouble with our arnold renders and maya geo after exporting trees growing as alembic files !

we get this maya warning

// Warning:  UVs aren't per-vertex or per-polygon per-vertex, skipping //
// Warning:  normal vector scope does not match size of data, skipping normals //

and then we get stuck geometry and flickering textures after rendering !!

I have tried now exporting from speedtree as quads and triangles with relative and absolute uv's,  I have tried importing into nuke and exporting, I have tried exporting from maya and re-importing.
I have tried using the Exocortex plugin instead of the maya alembic importer.

Still I am not getting results !!

Speedtree say that there alembic exports are fine and this is a maya problem, Excortex say that their plugin is stable and never crashes (it has not not crashed yet)

If anyone has any experience with alembic file and speedtree I would really appreciate your help...

Thanks in advance

Jem

All sorted now... looks like it was all about staying fresh....

What do mean "fresh"? What was the solution?

I was adviced by speedtree to create a fresh scene and import the alembic fresh before setting off growth renders... this seems to have dealt with the hanging geo issues we were having... :)

"Glad it's working!  That stuck geo issues is a thorn in our side for sure.  It's been in every Maya version that supports Alembic!"
