To smooth UVs or not?

Hi there people,
I always wonder which option is the "correct" or standard in the industry.
Since you have several options when smoothing geometries (or just activate the smooth mesh preview function) in MAYA, I would wanted to know your opinions.
You activate the smooth internal UVs, just edges and crisp vertices, or all of them?, ... or do you simply NOT smooth UVs at all?
Any opinions are very welcome :)

It depends completely on the texture. If the texture needs to align with edges, then smoothing uvs will be undesirable. If you're using a uniform pattern, like polka dots, that will show warping easily on smoothed geo, then smoothing uvs will help reduce the distortion.

Well, I was concerned about the 3D texturing pipeline with Substance Painter for example. So all maps are "painted", not relying on UV alignment.
