Somehow I have changed Maya's text colour match the colour of the Editor window backgrounds – so text is invisible and I can't read it. This is happening in the Script Editor, Visor, and a few other places I know the text is there in the Script Editor as I can select the text and paste it into my external text editor to read it. Something happened late in the last project and I finally have time to go fix it.

tl;dr how do I reset the Editor widows text to the default colour ( black/white)?

I'm on a MacPro 10.6.4 with a ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card.

Thanks

drew

This happens with Maya 2011 and 2011.5

I reinstalled Maya 2010 and the text is default black and readable.

Is this a QT interface issue?

Thanks again

Are u running a -style when you start maya? Some of the qt styles have
"unexpected results" on the script editor, visor, and outliner.

Hope that helps

Hi soupheads, I wonder if you can help, this is my first foray using this
wonderful plugin...

I've setup a basic scatter to shatter rig on proxy cube then plugged in my
actual model, all looks good, shattering nice and procedularly.

I've now realised that it would be nice to get the scatter points clumping up
more, so I get more shattering on the corners and closer to the surface, hell,
maybe one big shatter in the middle too.

So basically, is there any way of controling the position of these points more
directly, or moving them around with more control?

Thanks in advance

Thanks I hadn't known about those switches – They work for me to change the UI style.

...but unfortunately that doesn't fix my Visible Text problem. The text in the Script Editor, Visor labels, etc are still invisible (the same colour as the window background).

Is there a script/preference for specifying the colour of text in those windows?

I'm sure you know about the Colors menu but have a poke around in there anyway. I have never found this menu very user friendly and it could be that text color is linked to some other type of color setting that isn't obvious. I'm not aware of any text-specific color setting.

Window > Settings > Color Settings

Thanks Steve.

Yes I have explored all of the Colour Settings prefs but with no luck. Resetting to Default Colours doesn't work either.

If I change the window background colour in the Script Editor, the text remains invisible (presumably the same colour as the background, or maybe there is something else causing it to not be visible).

I have reinstalled from scratch, with fresh preferences, etc but it just won't go away. Most surprising (and concerning) is that Google hasn't found anyone else with this issue. What did I do to make this happen? Sheesh.

Oof. If you've already reinstalled and it's STILL there, that's harsh.

I'm not a Mac guy, but it sounds like if you're reinstalled it's not a Maya issue but maybe OS or graphics card.

A further development: I logged on as a different Admin user and the problem goes away.

Back in my working account, to uninstall I have deleted the program folder and the whole folder in the Library/Preferences/Autodesk in both my account and the User account areas.
What else can I delete to create a truly 'clean' install? Are there more files I need to hunt down in the Library folder?

Something lurking hidden somewhere needs to be deleted...

Thank you

maybe also look for the com.autodesk.Maya.2011.plist (etc) files in

~/Library/Preferences/com.autodesk.Maya.2011.plist

there might be more in there. I had a problem recently with my Render view not showing all options. I had to hunt down every maya pref I could find and delete it.

Thanks Gary, I should have thought of that...

I've created a brand new loggin account and did a tabula rasa my workspace (after a decade of accumulations) and that has fixed many issues. It's kind of refreshing to start anew, although I am expecting a few gotchas a long the way.

Just ran into this myself.  Would love to know.

How do I paint nParticles with Stylus Pressure controls? Is there an nParticlePaint.mel script for creating nParticles with the Paint Scripts Tool functionality?

The nParticle Tool does not seem to have any Stylus Pressure controls for me to dynamically control brush radius, number of particles, etc with brushstroke creation.

Thanks
