Does anyone know any way to fix the problem when Maya's Hardware Texture refuses to turn on to Diffuse in a material's rollout?

When you try and change a material's hardware texture from None to Diffuse Maya refuses to do it and prints:

//Error: Object not found://
I have found two (annoying fixes for this problem), one is you have to reload the scene for the hardware texture to turn up in the viewport and the error to go away....the second is to disconnect and reconnect the materials SG node.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this annoying problem and if they have any tweaks you can do to Maya's script or point out what I'm doing wrong in the first place?

try to look at the materialInfo node... I did this fix once but I don`t have the code anymore.  I remember that I copied some code from the factory scripts to find the materialInfo node and reconnect it.

I wish I still hadd the complete code that I could release, but unfortunatly I don't.

Hope this information leads you somewhere

Strange, I've never noticed this problem when I've had the diffuse channel textured. It always gets un-greyed out once the channel is connected. Is this common? What version of Maya?

Well Maya 2008,2009,2010 all of them! I think this has happened to me quite a while I guess....the easiest way to reproduce it is.

- Create Cube
- Assign Blinn
- Assign file texture to blinn material
- Rename Blinn Texture and Blinn SG node
- Turn on Hardware Texturing (this should display)
- Now goto your Blinn's Hardware Texturing rollout and Maya should complain saying, "// Error: Found no attribute match for "blinn1.color""

That's the easiest way to reproduce it but somehow it happens all the time during daily work and when importing in models and whatnot. But it's even worse because the hardware textures appear black and the only way to "reset" it is to disconnect and reconnect the SG node or reload the scene.

If this isn't happening to yourself then perhaps there's something going on with my preferences.

I had a look at Sylvain's suggestions too but am still trying to work everything all out.

Cheers,
Kiernan

A hacky workaround is to open the UV texture editor and choose which map to display from the textures menu,
