In light of the recent move to discontinue CentOS 8 what OS would you guys recommend using for virtual Maya. I'm using a private cloud, so I can probably run anything.

I used CentOS 7 a long time ago, but wasn't thrilled with it.
I just installed CentOS Stream to see if this was a good fit, but it doesn't support much software. It doesn't look like the OS to use.

Should I just use Windows Server on the cloud? I use Windows 10 in my office, so it would be the easiest, but not the cheapest.

Suggestions?

Nobody has any suggestions?

What Linux distro do you guys use?

Thanks,
Ryan

Ok, so for what it's worth, seems like Maya will run on anything if you go to the trouble of installing all the missing libraries. It's probably smart to just use Centos7, since it's actually supported.
Yuck. Whatever. Centos7 it is.

We use Cent7 at the office but on my home machines I typically run and suggest an Ubuntu strain...kubuntu, Linux mint, etc....  You will just need to install the missing dependencies but that is true of any Linux flavour.

Thanks Deke,
I've heard that running on a debian based distro is less stable than a RHEL based one. I've never tried it, but I definitely like Mint and Ubuntu better than Centos, and if it works, it's worth a try.
I'm in the process of building a platform for a lot of people, so I probably should make a few different builds and see which works best.

Thanks for the input,
Ryan
