Is there are way to completely hide the primary visibility of objects in an AO pass in Vray using the standard dirt map technique? But still have those objects contribute to the pass?

Basically if you have an object sitting on a plane and want one AO pass for just the object but have the plane cast occlusion rays on it, then another pass that is the opposite, so you have only the plane and the occlusion effects of the objects on the plane, can this be done with render elements? Or is it necessary to do another render pass with primary viz turned off for the object?

I figured there must be a way to do this with the exclusion lists, but am so far not figuring it out. It's confusing as there's an exclusion list on the pass node itself, as well as exclusion and inclusion lists on the dirt map node, which also have toggles to reverse them. In any case, have not been able to get this result no matter the combinations.

You can isolate the contributions of the vray dirt via the include and exclude lists but I don't think you can hide an object completely. It will always end up as either white or black cutout as far as i know.

That's the conclusion I've also come to. Thanks.
