Maya crashing upon startup - ACCESS_VIOLATION

Hi guys,

After having worked in Maya for a while I closed it for updating some CC stuff and after that I can no longer start Maya, getting a Fatal Error message during startup and a crash.

The Maya crash log says:

I have tried:

- Renaming Prefs folder C:\Users\MB\Documents\maya\2016 and restarting oes not work

- uninstall and reinstall does not work - same error

- attempted windows rollback but have no restore points before start of crash.

I am guessing there is a problem in the registry or a memory issue (ran memory tests but no errors reported) but Softimage runs fine, so I am not really sure if it is a windows issue or a Maya issue.

So my question is if anyone here have experienced something similar and have suggestions regarding how to fix it?
