Hey guys,

Anyone know a way to kill maya and have it do an autosave on Windows? You can do this in Linux (works most of the time), would be schweet...

Cheers,
Janak

You can use the PsKill.exe (part of PsTools) on Windows but that won't perform any kind of autosave.

I've actually had luck lately killing maya from the task manager. But
not from the process tab. But from the first tab.
It takes longer. But it seems to work.

This may be a 2012 thing. I'm not sure.

Thanks guys but there's no problem killing Maya (and as we all know, sometimes Maya does that free of charge anyways :-)) it's just that something with the setup where I am at the moment frequently freezes Maya randomly.

Maybe if I run it from the command line (is it even possible to start it that way?)? Kinda like starting it from a shell in Linux? Or I just save every two minutes...heavy scenes tho'.

Cheers,
Janak

Just enable Autosave in prefs. Limit Autosaves to 10 or so and set it to run every 5 or 10 minutes.

I'm not looking for an autosave. I'm looking for a way to save my scene before I kill Maya after it freezes, like what you can do in Linux.

Well well, maybe it's not doable on Windows. Thanks anyway guys.

find the process id, then kill with -SEGV. eg, if the maya pid is 12345,

kill -SEGV 12345

doesn't always work, but worth a try.

I found:

kill -4 12345

... To be a bit more reliable, never failed for me yet. May well be exactly the same thing, though ;)
