Is there any way to set a Vray light to NOT illuminate by default?
Going into the Light Sets editor and disconnecting everything manually works, but this is a pain. There seems to be no "Illuminates by Default" checkbox equivalent to the one Maya lights have.

Will button it up for you, if you edit to include V-Ray light types
(shout if that's an issue).

ps. My time at Prime Focus is winding down if anybody happens to need
a scripty-capable Maya/Houdini/V-Ray lighting type in Vancouver.

Thanks, was just looking for an easy way to turn off lighting by default though, ie. without resorting to scripts ;)
