QT is considered a security risk? Can you elaborate?
I use VLC player quite a bit, though not sure about its frame by frame capabilities. it will play almost anything though.
I haven't researched this myself so count personally vouch for it, but it's probably worth a try,Pretty important that you do this, as down the road there could be serious security implications. They have already identified two zero-day holes in Quicktime Player that will not be patched. This means a hacker could gain complete control over affected systems. They would still need the user to click on malware-affected websites or files via typical phishing or spam email. Note this is NOT the same as the Quicktime codecs and also this ONLY affects PC users, not OSX. So, all is not lost, here are the simple steps you need to follow to resolve the problem:1. In your add / remove programs, uninstall QT player completely.2. Go to the apple QT installer download page and grab the latest package for Windows3. During install, make sure that everything except the "critical components" is NOT installed. (Xed out). Leave the top option for install only (something like "media for third party apps" - this is the codecs only)4. Install as normalNow you're good to go, AE and PPRO work fine, and QT player for Windows is no longer an issue
Mrplayer is pretty good. The audio seems to be mono for some reason. Is there a setting for that or dies it just not work?
I can vouch for this, those steps indeed only leave the codec installed but NOT the QT player or web player, which I hope is secure enough.
Those steps along with Dave 'mrViewer' is a perfect solution
