Hey guys !

We're setting up a farm for Arnold at the studio and I've been having issues with xgen. When we submit a scene to Deadline we'd like to have Submit Maya Scene enabled so the file gets copied over the nodes safely. This works great in general situations, but when using xgen, deadline doesn't copy the associated .xgen file that lives just beside the maya scene file. So when it tries to render it can't find it as it's looking in the local render node scene folder.

Is there any "search path" i could setup for xgen on the render nodes or something to force Deadline to copy the .xgen file ?

PS : If I submit without Submit Maya Scene checked it works, but this is less than ideal.

Thanks !

Hey man.

Did you ever get your problem sorted?  I'm having the same issue!

Thanks!

Hey !

It's in the works, I'm talking with the Deadline guys and testing a new version of the Maya submit script. I'll let you know as soon as I have time to check it out :)

Hey Alex!

They mailed me back with this solution and it works perfectly on v7.2

Make sure all of your assets have absolute paths in your maya scene. Next go into Deadline Monitor > Super User > Configure Plugins > MayaBatch and then set Path Mapping to false.
This should stop the copying to the local directory and look for absolute paths instead. If its not working this time send me the log again.

I’ve been using Smedge forever and find it works great for Maya and AE and just about anything that is commandline based.  Have users of Deadline used Smedge as well in the past?  Curious what the differences are if any.

I used Smedge roughly 10 years ago and moved over to Deadline because I didn't feel like I had enough control.

But this was WAY back when Smedge barely had any UI!

Testing1.  I never write onto this list anymore simply because I'm not able to create a new email and post.

For some reason, I'm only able to reply to an existing topic.  Who should I contact to figure out why?  Sorry for the hijack but ever since it was moved from highend3d list server to google groups I've had this problem.

there's no special sauce; this is just a vanilla google group.

i'm at work right now so don't have time to check your details, but probably the easiest way would be to just create a new login for the group with the email address you want to use. if that does't work.. um.... not sure. you're the first complaint i've heard about this sort of thing, seems to work ok for everyone else.

the only related thing was when i setup the group i used my gmail address rather than my tokeru.com one. i just created a new account with the new address, all good.
