Friends,

Looptopia is a bit more than 24 hours away...can't wait! Below is a request from a fellow artist doing a performance piece tomorrow. She's looking for more volunteers if you're into that sort of thing. Be an artist....or help one out.

Look for a location announcement for the rooftop party tomorrow afternoon. There will be free drinks* and appetizers.

Mark

* free drinks randomly given to those who play the text-to-win game at the party

Dear Volunteers,

First of all thank you for offering your help, it is very much appreciated
as this piece could not have been executed without your contribution. I
wanted to give you a quick breakdown of what's going to happen tomorrow
Friday, May 11, 2007 at Looptopia in regards to my piece. Please read all
the information below, feel free to print the email out and keep it with you
tomorrow, if that will make things easier.

I will be on the South Side Stairs of the Chicago Cultural Center, which is
located on corner of Washington and Michigan Ave., from 5.30pm to 10pm. This
is where you will meet me at the time you told me you would be available. I
will check you in, give you a sign with my name, a map, a party invitation,
and a few cards with my website info. I will be sending you to a high people
traffic Looptopia location, where you are to hang out for a while holding
the sign. That is really it. When you are done, please stop by to let me
know that you are leaving and to return the sign. If it is after 11pm, we
will work something else out, so let me know tomorrow when you check in with
me.

As requested in my postings and emails, I would please ask that you wear
white clothing, or at least as close to white clothing as possible in order
to be more noticeable.

While you are standing with the sign by passers might ask you questions. It
is up to you if you want to interact with people, you are free to ignore
them and hold the sign in silence and just give people the little card with
the website. However, if you are interested in interacting, I have included
a list of typical questions you might encounter and answered them below. I
don't expect you to memorize this, as most of the info is to be found on the
website, but at least you will know.

Questions & Answers:

Who is Anni Holm?
A Chicago Artist

Why are you holding a sign with her name?
I am "Getting Her Name Out There"

Who are you?
An Artist / A Friend / A ______ (your profession) / A Volunteer etc. You
donøt ahve to give people you name, but if you want to get your's out too,
feel free to do so.

Why are you doing this for her and not for you?
I am taking part in her performance piece for Looptopia.

Where is she?
On the South Side Stairs of the Cultural Center

What is this all about?
There are several layers to this piece. In general they all revolve around
themes of visibility, promotion, and branding using a rather unusual witty
and matter-of-fact approach. The project was inspired by several observations
of contemporary human behavior in which both advanced and very simple forms
of advertising plays a major role. The idea of holding a sign with her name
came from watching political rallies and sporting events where the audience
would hold up similar name signs in support – and from passing street
corners with people advertising anything from a car wash to a store close
out sales – and finally not to forget: from the airports and train stations,
where people are seen waiting, probably for someone they don't even know –
hence the sign.

As a thank you to all of you, I will be making and giving you all a signed
and editioned print in the weeks following the performance. If you bring
anyone else to help out, (please do so - as I am still a little short), make
sure I get their information as well, so they can receive a print too.

Thank you again for your willingness to do this, I cannot tell you how much
I appreciate it.

See you tomorrow,
Anni

PS. Call me after 7pm tonight if you have any questions, or drop me an email
at any time. I will be unavailable from 1pm - 5pm tomorrow, as I am doing
another performance, in a window at the Museum of Contemporary Photography.
My cell: 847.436.2664

PPS. Those of you who will be taking photoes, please let me know, how we can
exchange the files afterwards. Thank you!
