Hi,

There are many resources on the web. This paper provides an "ecologist-friendly" explanation of Maxent (check also the Suppl Mat): http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1472-4642.2010.00725.x/full

And if you want to know what's going on in terms of algorithms, this tutorial does all the calculations involved in Maxent, step by step in Excel: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/8d287b15-b463-44e8-a35f-95ffbbff8459/

Cheers

I think of it as a modeling tool that tries to form its picture based on known information. It seems like it is adaptable for a variety of questions, but not always correctly understood by those who use it. If entropy is maximized by forced constraints, then assumptions become obsolete or more important. (?)
