Information on QuikSCAT datasets generated (if I am not wrong) by Sasan
Saatchi are available at
<http://www-radar.jpl.nasa.gov/carbon/rs_ab.htm>, click on "Project Web
Site" and in the left panel of the new page, on Remote Sensing Data. You
will see several datasets, one of them "QSCAT Time Series". Click there
and you will land in another page with "QSCAT Monthly Mean" which will
take you to <ftp://www-radar.jpl.nasa.gov/projects/carbon/ab/QSCAT/>,
although those .byt are only for part of South America. In a separate
mail I am sending to you three pertinent papers you definitely must read
if you plan to use this kind of data (if somebody explains to me how to
upload them to the Maxent site I'll put them there; I'm a member, but I
don't see any way to upload them; sorry for my ignorance).
If you need other area you have to download raw images in .sir format.
You must go to <http://search.scp.byu.edu/> and search for you area. You
will download the .sir images and translate to grids. It is not for the
faint hearted, I warn you... In this page
<http://www.scp.byu.edu/FAQ.html> you can find the way to get some light
from the darkness...
The ftp (I can send you the script I wrote to download all the South
America and you can modify it according to your needs) is very effient,
and then you can massively translate those .sir to ESRI grids using the
Marine Geospatial Ecology Tools <http://code.env.duke.edu/projects/mget>.
Prepare some coffee, and be patient... you need some expertise on
ArcInfo (to automatize the whole thing) or ArcGIS.
