Good evening, I hope you are well.

I've been away from research for a few years, but I'm returning to my PhD in this area. I would appreciate your input on your experiences. What machine, processing power, memory, and other factors would be most efficient for running analyses?

Thank you in advance for your interaction.

I don’t run with a video card at all (I use integrated graphics in my cpu) so don’t spend any big money on that! I have 64gb of ram but I think 32 gb is pretty much fine.

Thanks, just to be sure, which processor are you using?

Hi Romulo, sorry for my delay! Here is my processor:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8 core, 64gb of ram, and 2tb of storage. its definitely WAY overkill for whats needed, but I wanted to futureproof my operating system, and I saved some money on using integrated graphics with it so your mileage may vary here! I originally had a SATA drive which was a major bottleneck. Would not recommend that, go for a NVME for sure even if you only have 500gb/1Tb of NVME and keep other older or less important stuff on a backup SATA drive.

Romulo, you do not need anything fancy at all.
Here are some specifications

MaxEnt will run on any computer running Java 1.5 or later. It requires at least 512 mb of available memory. Windows users can manually increase its memory usage up to approximately 1.3 gb.

Which I believe was the original one when it was launched.

So no dedicated Video card needed. Good too have a lot of hdd space.

Processing files for Maxent is actually more sensitive to specifications, depending on what scale you are working with.

Cheers

Very important, I have a good idea, but I want to know how to use the machine a little better than what is necessary.

Yes, yes, but I need to upgrade my computer a bit, even beyond what's necessary, just to do some analysis and handle some data.
