Hi,

I have the same problem as Arno.
The PC that I am using is similar to his PC.

I have already increase the memory allocation via maxent.bat file (the maximum that I can allocate is  1Gb, even though the help says that I would be able to use until 1.3 Gb, as I am working with Windows).

As I am modelling 100 species, I solve this problem by modelling 10 subsets of 10 species each. It is a little more time demanding but it works. Nevertheless, the maximum number of environmental layers that I can use is 18. When I try to use more than 18 environmental variables I have the error message also. Is it normal to have this message of error when utilizong this number of environmental variables?

Thanks,

Rafael

Arno,

Are you using the latest release of Maxent?  And are you clicking on
the maxent.bat file rather than maxent.jar file, and first editing the
maxent.bat file to increase the memory allocation, as described in the
help button page?

If you Google the error there is a lot of info about it. I suspect
that you might have other processes using significant memory resulting
in Java running out. I doubt that it is a memory leak problem because
I think much larger Maxent runs have been run successfully.

Rafael,

No, you shouldn't have that problem. Can you send me the maxent.log
file for a run where you get the error?
