Hi,

we have encountered errors in the column formatting of the maxentResults.csv file.  Has anyone else found the same problem who could suggest a solution?

thanks for your time, Mel L

Could you describe the problem?

Hi John,

Headings in the maxentResults.csv table are being repeated on every
second row of the table, with the data printing in the rows between
headings. Headings are also being offset to the right by either 4 or
8 cells as you progress through the table. For species without test
data, 4 columns are being repeated and inserted to the left of the
table. For species with test data, 8 columns are being repeated and
inserted to the left of the table. In both cases, it is the repeated
column that contains the data, it is missing from under the other copy
of the heading. Space for the columns and rows does not seem to be
limiting,

any ideas would be welcomed,

Mel L

Hi Mel,

Bizarre...

First thoughts are:
Are you using the current version (3.3.3k)?
Are you modelling multiple species?
Is this problem evident if you open the csv file in a text editor?

Cheers,
John

Hi again John,

Yes we are using version 3.3.3k and modelling multiple species via an
R batch file. The results for each species are appended to the
maxentResults.csv file as they are completed. The formatting is still
a problem regardless of which editor you open it in.

Thanks for your help.

How are you appending to the .csv? It might be easier if we can see the contents of your batch file.

Cheers,
John

Here is the part of the batch file which calls Maxent, and the
"appendtoresultsfile" command:

#call Maxent
+ setwd("E:/Maxent")
+ system(paste('java',' -mx1200m -jar maxent\\maxent.jar
responsecurves jackknife -e Layers -X ',test_pc,' -t cat
biasfile=biasmask.asc "appendtoresultsfile=true" warnings=false -s
Samples\\',s_lst[i],' -o Outputs\\FBA redoifexists
autorun',sep=""),wait=T)

I just ran a few more species and the same thing happened, with the
following error message over and over, apart from for the first
species which is fine:
Warning: CsvWriter: printing into a non-existent column
"cat_species_1_mask contribution" in file maxentResults.csv

any ideas welcomed!

Mel

If you run a single species from the command line (not through R), and then run a second one with the appendtoresultsfile flag, does the csv look like you'd expect it to?
