Hello Everyone,

Very new user of this program, curious how I convert .txt or excel
files that I have been using for my occurence data in DIVA into files
that Maxent can/will read. Also, the program seems not to like .grd
files despite the fact that I recently read that Maxent will accept
them. Any suggestions from the ether? Thanks! Adam

I save all excel files as comma separated files (ending .csv) and then they import nicely, so long as the format is what Maxent expects (column 1 is species name, column 2 is latitude in decimal degrees and column 3 is longitude in decimal degrees). Always take a look at the file in wordpad or notepad to make sure excel didn't put in trailing commas anywhere. This can mess things up. Haven't tried grid files.

Adam,

I was puzzled too by the announcement of Maxent reading grd-files. It
would be a nice feature, but haven't found it to be working in 3.2.1.
The grd-output file format was already available in the previous
version.

Could one of the developers please clarify this issue?

Thanks,
Bram

Bram and Adam,

If you have a grd-file or bil-file that Maxent isn't managing to read,
can you email it to me, or post it on a temporary web site and email
me the link? There may be variations in the header format that I
don't know about, but they should be easy to handle.

Hi All,

Steven has very kindly solved my problem (files incomplete viz. .bil-
files without .hdr and .grd-files without .gri) by suggesting that
the .bil files could be renamed to .gri to have a 'complete' grd-gri
couple.

He has also updated the error message so that the next release will
make clear when a header or data file is missing.
