Hello!

I am having issues with my Maxent runs. I am using WorldClim - Global Climate Data as my environmental layer inputs in Maxent. I have been using zone 37 for current conditions (I am looking at Madagascar). I've been modifying the layers (19 total) to the same geographical bounds by converting each one into a Constant Raster in ArcGIS 10.1. I then have been using the toolbox under Conversion Tools -> From Raster to ASCII to convert the files into .asc. They come out as text files, so I add the extension ".asc" to the file name.

However, I still think I'm having issues because the .asc files don't have enough data in them apparently? They are too small for Maxent, which requires 9000x the size. I'm not sure if this has to do with the conversion of these files or if maybe I need to look into another data source.

Does anyone know of any other methods to use to convert raster files to .asc files?

Thank you!

Hi Clarissa,

I had the same problem awhile back. When naming your output file, did you use the "save as type" dropdown to choose the .asc option (instead of the .txt option)? If it's not showing up as an option try restarting the tool or restarting ArcMap all together.

Hope that helps!
