Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on how to create a swd file. I'm not sure
which tool in ArcGIS allows you to get the grid values of multiple
environmental layers from the pixels underlying a point file. Any
advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Nadia

Hawthorne Beyer isn't recommending the use of Hawth's tools any longer.
Do read the red paragraphs.

Instead you may try
http://www.spatialecology.com/gme/ - the new tool improving the
functions also found in Hawth's tools.

This tool may be useful: http://www.spatialecology.com/gme/isectpntrst.htm

Or you can use Maxent itself. The tutorial mentions this on p. 33. The
command is:

java -cp maxent.jar density.Getval samplesfile directory/
*.asc ... > outfile

where samplesfile is your sample .csv, directory is the path to your
enviro grids, and outfile is the path and name of the file you want to
write the resulting SWD .csv to.

The wildcard (*) tells Maxent to use all .asc grids in the directory.
If you'd rather choose a subset, you can list the grids' filenames one
after another instead (seperated with spaces).

To produce a background (pseudoabsence) SWD file, you can use:

java -cp maxent.jar density.tools.RandomSample num grid1 grid2
grid3

where num is your desired number of random points, and grid1, grid2,
etc are your enviro grid filenames.
