cannot run maxent

Well, this may be embarrassingly simple, but hopefully someone can
help me anyways: I loaded Maxent, downloaded new Java, changed the
path (and tested it), but still when I type "maxent.bat" in the dos
window it won't run. Java starts, but then it gives the error message
that it cannot access maxent.jar. I've looked, and maxent.jar was
unzipped properly and is present as a collection of folders. I have no
idea how Java operates, so I have no idea now how to correct this.

If anyone can help it would be most appreciated. I did look and search
through the old discussion postings but found nothing relevant. All
the rest of the folks who had errors at least got the program to run!

Martin,

You probably downloaded the maxent.jar file using Internet Explorer,
which, for reasons known only to Microsoft, changes the name of
maxent.jar to maxent.zip. You need to change the extension back to
.jar.

 I thought that might have been the problem, but I typed "dir" in the dos window (to see the true extension names) and saw maxent.jar. Maybe Microsoft added something "hidden" to the name like a trailing space -- I'll rename it and try again.
