Hello everyone,

I am learning the Maxent software and successfully did a map for the BIOCLIM data but I want to add the elevation variable. I tried searching for DEM rasters but all I found is for a tile and what I need is the elevation for the whole world map. If you know where I can find one and use it in Maxent, that would be helpful for my study.

Thank you very much!

Hi Kings,

Were you able to get a hold of elevation data?

Best,
Andre

Dear Andre,

Sadly, no. I‘m still on the search for the elevation data. However, do you know something about using snow cover as a variable? Thanks

Sincerely,
King

Thank you very much. The website is very useful. Just one question, can I use snow cover as a variable in maxent?

The short answer is yes, you can. The catch is in how you are defining and measuring snow cover.

If it is approached categorically (e.g. presence/absence), look at how land-cover is used in other studies. Be sure to read the MaxEnt documentation on using categorical variables. If you are using measured snow cover across an extent rather than presence, you could approach it just like precipitation. The values of snow depth at each cell location.

Doing what you described so far, across a global extent, is going to take some processing time, depending on the data resolution.
