Writing JMeter tests in Java and using Maven JMeter Plugin

Hi,

According to documentation it looks as if the JMeter Plugin is executing files in *.jmx format which need to be created with JMeter GUI.

I've been wondering if it is possible to write JMeter tests in Java and automate the process so that I can still use this plugin?

I am trying to achieve the same thing now? Did you figure this out yet? Please share some references and links if you did. I started looking into StandardJMeterEngine API but haven't found any good examples online
