How to Install ENC Permits on Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 / 4000 ECDIS

Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 / 4000 ECDIS is a software that allows you to view and manage electronic navigational charts (ENCs) on your computer. ENCs are digital versions of paper charts that provide more accurate and up-to-date information for safe navigation. However, to use ENCs on your Transas ECDIS, you need to have a valid licence and permit for each chart.

A licence is a contract between you and the chart provider that grants you the right to use their ENCs. A permit is a file that contains the encryption key to unlock the ENCs. You need to install both the licence and the permit on your Transas ECDIS before you can view the ENCs.

In this article, we will show you how to install ENC permits on Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 / 4000 ECDIS using the example of AVCS, which is the Admiralty Vector Chart Service from the UK Hydrographic Office. AVCS is one of the most widely used ENC services in the world, covering over 15,000 ports and 3,000 coastal areas.

Step 1: Download the AVCS permit file

The first step is to download the AVCS permit file from the Admiralty website. You need to have a user account and a valid subscription to access the permit file. The permit file is updated weekly and contains all the permits for the ENCs that you have ordered or subscribed to.

To download the AVCS permit file, follow these steps:

    • Click on "Download Permits" under "My Services".
    • Select your vessel name from the drop-down menu and click on "Download".
    • Save the permit file (named PERMIT.TXT) to a USB drive or any other removable media that you can connect to your Transas ECDIS.

Step 2: Install the AVCS permit file on Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 / 4000 ECDIS

      • Open the Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 / 4000 ECDIS software and click on "Chart Manager".

      • Select the drive letter of your USB drive or other removable media and then select the PERMIT.TXT file.
      • Click on "Open" and then on "OK". The permit file will be imported and installed on your Transas ECDIS.
      • Close the "Permit Manager" and click on "Update Database". This will update your chart database with the new permits.
