Picatinny scope mount - fitting?

Hello everyone. I'm cross-posting the following question and reply from a blog post to here in the discussion forum. If you have any experience with scope mounts not fitting, please chime in. Thanks, Rick.

I recently purchased a second hand M03 Extreme in .458 Lott. This rifle came with a scope mount, which I am reserving for the additional .300 Win Mag barrel that I have purchased. I then purchased a Picatinny mount, for the M03, from Optics Trade but I cannot get this mount to fit on the action. I thought that all M03 mounts would be interchangeable but this mount seems to be to be fitted. Is that how they should be or do I have a dud mount? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Robert. Congratulations on joining the fraternity of intelligent, wise and good looking folk who own and use Mauser M03 rifles. Re the Picatinny mount, the first question that pops into my mind is, is it actually an original Mauser scope mount? There are some third party versions that have been made, some very good. Can I ask you to please describe the way in which it doesn't fit? Thanks.

Perhaps you could add a pic or two of the fitting problem, if you can get a camera close enough. Worth a try.

I have the M03 Picatinny scope mount (made by Mauser), and it fits the standard Double Square M03 mounting holes on my rifle just fine. I don't have any experience with Picatinny mounts made by other companies.
