The thermal springs of Thermopyles were known since antiquity, and the
existence of the thermal mineral water, flowing through the narrow
pass of land, gave the name of the area 'thermo' and
'pyles' ( gates ). In the Mythology the Goddess Athena, ordered her
brother God Hephaestus, to create the thermal springs of Thermopyles,
as a gift to the Hero Hercules, for him, to have medicinal bathing,
and to heal his traumas ( wounds ) after his contests.
