In announcing that Peter Beinart would be joining Haaretz as a senior
columnist, Haaretz wrote of him in the following terms
"Peter Beinart has reshaped the discussion about the future of Israel
in the American Jewish community, and his voice will be a great
contribution to Haaretz's team of writers. His original thinking and
unique point of view will enrich both our Israeli and American readers."
On the other hand, this is how Brett Stephens, deputy editor and
foreign affairs columnist of the Wall Street Journal and previously
editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post writes of Beinart's book "The
Crisis of Zionism":
"Beinart's book arguing that the Israeli occupation alienates young
American Jews, is sloppy with facts and emotionally contrived".
Quoting many examples of factual errors and omission of important
information in the book Stephens writes
"..In fact, the errors in Beinart's book pile up at such a rate that
they become almost impossible to track"
In his post explaining why his blog open Zion closed, Beinart wrote
"As I began writing critically about Israel, I began to feel it. When
I asked one friend to comment on the manuscript of my book, he at
first replied that for the sake of our friendship, he would rather not"
