HI
Below is an email from David Kaplan about the new TV station i24. Until it becomes available on your local TV channels you can view it in high quality on the internet at  http://www.i24news.tv/en/ .  I suggest you BOOKMARK it and explore the various tabs including the Israel tab
The excellent content is international and I highly recommend it

 David Kaplan's email about i24

Last week I had a call from Sharon at Telfed following enquiries from South Africa as to how folk there can view the new all-English 24 hour news channel i24.

I have it through my satellite package and this week I visited the studio in Jaffa, right in the newly rejuvenated harbour.

I interviewed most the newsreaders, including the Arab newsreader Lucy Haraish, and the CEO Frank Melloul, who was the founder of  France 24 and prior to that, political advisor to the Prime Minister of France, Dominique de Villepin. (See my photo below in the English studio with newsreader Meredith Ross. She is from Chicago and a graduate of the IDC Herzliya). I am presently writing a 5 page-spread article on i24 for Hilton Israel Magazine .

i24 is televised in English, Arabic and French to 800 million households in Europe, Africa and Asia. It will be launched in the USA in 2014.  As Frank said, “This is to reach people who hate Israel not because they are anti-Semitic but because they are clueless about Israel. We aim to rectify this.”

The channel is brilliant – very balanced and covers the culture in Israel presenting a ‘normal’ country, contrary to the stereotypical negative images of war, walls and ‘occupation’.

In South Africa it is available through Astra 5 but everyone anywhere in the world can log onto i24 through their computer for all day live coverage.

While it has been dubbed the “Israel’s Al Jazeera,” CEO Melloul  says this description is wrong.  “Al Jazeera is Qatar owned – as is France 24 by the French government. On the other hand, i24 is totally a private initiative and thus our credibility credentials are impeccable. We have employees from 35 nationalities working under one roof – and Hebrew, English, French is spoken all day at our studio in Jaffa. We are a true microcosm of Israeli society.”
