जनगणनेचा दुसरा टप्पा सुरू होत आहे. यात भाषिक सांख्यिकीचा समावेश आहे. जनगणना प्रपत्रात दहावा प्रश्न आहे की तुमची मातृभाषा कोणती आहे ? आणि अकरावा प्रश्न आहे की मातृभाषेव्यतिरिक्त ज्या भाषेवर तुमचे प्रभुत्व आहे अशी दुसरी व तिसरी भाषा कोणती आहे? या प्रश्नाचे उत्तर देताना कृपया हिंदीचा उल्लेख करू नका. कारण महाराष्ट्रातील परप्रांतीय आपली दुसरी अथवा तिसरी भाषा म्हणून मराठीचा उल्लेख करीत नाहीत. आपण दुसरी अथवा तिसरी भाषा म्हणून हिंदीचा उल्लेख केल्यास महाराष्ट्रात हिंदी बोलणार्‍यांची संख्या मराठी बोलणार्‍यांहून जास्ती दिसण्याची शक्यता आहे. दुसरी भाषा म्हणून पाहिजे तर इंग्रजीचा आणि तिसरी भाषा म्हणून संस्कृतचा उल्लेख करावा. जास्तीतजास्त मराठी भाषकांपर्यंत हा संदेश अग्रेषित करावा ही विनंती.
