The shop both in the past and currently does not allow the working of Fiberglass resin materials or fibers in the physical space. The fibers are not good for the general health of the population of Makers.  In the past when someone was using the Shapeoko to mill graphite sheets for drones all of the work was done in the parking lot with a shop vac dedicated to collection and the user had to replace the filter when the project was done.

The general rule in the physical space if it  requires N95 or recirculating breathing apparatus for the operator it is not allowed.  Airborne dust is a continuing issue and is no good for our other equipment as well as it persists and drops out overnight.

As for a Kiln that answer is no there is no place for one or the power to run it.

If there was one it would require an advanced membership to run because of the power it would use

Hello Maui Makers,

I am wondering if the Makers shop currently has a pottery kiln for firing
clay, and if it is available during general open weekend hours?
Also, are there any masks that I could borrow or use in the shop that are
NIOSH approved that would be appropriate to wear when working with
fiberglass like the one attached? If so, what is the filtration rating
(i.e. P95)? If the filter is a low quality, can I replace it with my own
higher quality filter (i.e. P100)? I would be sure to disinfect before and
after use.

Thank you,

Camry Gach

Ok thank you for letting me know about the kiln and fiberglass. I am searching for safer alternatives, as I agree that working with fiberglass risks health.

Thank you for your support and advice,
Camry
