I have been looking for an on Island source for the smaller diameter Metric screws and tooling to go along with it (under 4mm)  I have not been successful in this endeavor.  If you know of one please reply with the information.

But based on my current findings I am thinking of doing a group buy either as the person buys what he needs and we all ship together or we do it as a subscription purchase and for $X the subscriber gets a fixed number of the fasteners when they need them based on their relative initial cost this would also go to any drill bits and taps that are purchased.  Because of the delicate nature of tooling below 4mm 3/16 the space will not be providing thiese tools.

I will probably start off with a purchase of 5 to 10 sets of these for 2mm 2.5mm, 3mm  ( a set will be tap drill, tap spiral push design, clearance hole for screw.) I will put together a price if there is interest. Once the purchase is made then the cost on Island will go up with a portion going to the space.

If this goes forward than new subscriptions will be added as supply is depleted if that is the route we go.

The hardware will be all stainless steel.  With the subscription model I will need to know what sizes, lengths, and the head style you will probably use. along with the screws I will also be ordering nuts and washers of a suitable quantity for the number of screws ordered.  One of my sources packages in quantities of 100 at cost similar to 20 at other suppliers

So you want to get stainless and metric of that small size?  That will hard to find on Maui.   Slim's power tools would have the tap and die but at a premium.  Across the street from them is Service Rental which has a decent selection of nuts and bolts. I got a metric Grade * bolt there once to my surprise.  They won't have that small items.

For kits here are some:

Note, don't forget everyone to use Smile for Amazon..  The vendor Stainless Town has a bunch of sets.  I would separate tooling and fastener buys.  I'll use group buys whenever I can but in this case I don't have a need for this size.  What are these fasteners for- to have on hand or for build projects?

I imagine the Shapeoko will get some of these as you have done a good job on it so far!

My sources are cheaper by levels then either Grainger or McMaster Carr The one has been in business for over 40 years and I had dealings with them in the 70's and 80's  I will order in their  cd catalog they don't do a paper one any more as the web interface is really easy to use.

There are many uses in the space as all of the steppers have metric threaded fasteners and most of the extrusions that are used to build 3D stuff use metric small fasteners.  The prepackaged kits generally start at either 4mm or 5mm Ask Laura and Shapeoko on trying to get metric small fasteners here.  We have  been trying to get 2mm 2.5mm and 3 mm cap head and setscrews for that project.

In the subscription model the space would purchase a share for it's use. that way it would not be supporting the entire purchase with its funds.

My suggestion would be to those members who are planning on a large project is to get in on this with your build hardware.

I figured you have way better sources.  Those prices were high.

This is another great benefit of being a MM member- leveraging Peter's (and others) decades long built up rolodex.  If someone has any projects, this is an easy and cheaper way to get stuff here that, as they have found out, can't be found on Maui.

Disregard my signature on posts.. it fills it in automatically and depending on what email I reply from it fills it in automatically.

I'm interested.  I use lots of stainless M3 and M4, and could use an assorted kit of M2, M3 and M4 stuff. Let me know what the prices are like;  I usually get stuff like this at McMaster.

Pete, I will help support this purchase. Seems like it is something we should have on hand and available.  How much is a "set"?  I also have questions/ discussion off topic.  Please email me at bu...@tiki.net.  Mahalo
