We are excited to introduce the Fall/Winter 2023 edition of Paper Matters magazine. Jam-packed with the latest industry trends and inspirational stories, this issue serves as a reminder of how paper and print are critical marketing mix components.
Paper (also known as Paper Mag) is a New York City-based independent magazine focusing on fashion, popular culture, nightlife, music, art, and film. Initially produced monthly, the magazine eventually became a quarterly publication, and a digital version was made available online at papermag.com.
In 2020, physical production of the magazine was paused following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The publication continued to create and release content online via its website.
Paper was founded in 1984 by Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovits, former editors at the SoHo Weekly News, with help from Lucy Sisman and Richard Weigand. Beginning as a monthly print magazine in the form of a black and white 16-page fold-out, it has since transformed into a quarterly print and digital magazine.[4]
In April 2023, in the wake of reduced advertising revenues since the pandemic, the magazine's staff was laid off and editorial operations ceased. The company itself did not shut down, but was seeking alternative options to remain in operation.[18] In September 2023, Paper resumed operations with Justin Moran returning as editor-in-chief after the publication was acquired by Street Media in June.[19]
It has been a while since I've shared a decorated cake with you and this one is long overdue. I made this Damask Wafer Paper Cake last year for Cake Central magazine's Fashion Issue. It's my take on the Oscar Carvallo dress that was provided for inspiration. This is my second cake to appear in the magazine and for the fashion issue. This Gatsby-looking number appeared in the 2013 Fashion Issue.
This is a double-barrel base tier covered in fondant and then wrapped in a damask print wafer paper, which pretty much drained my black ink supply. The top tier is covered in black fondant, which was airbrushed with a black sheen then covered with black sanding sugar. I accessorized it with a grungy wafer paper flower and billy balls.
I would be tumbling down the hill if I went snowboarding too, I tried to learn a few years ago but couldn't grasp it ? I do love skiing though even though I'm still learning. I would love to learn how to make the masterpieces that come out of your kitchen! This cake is stunning Jacquee!! Seriously a work of art and congrats on your magazine appearance - so well deserved friend ?

Fashion Magazine Diversity Report Is In [Fashionista, The Fashion Spot]
Both Fashionista and The Fashion Spot conducted a thorough review of 2016 fashion magazine covers, and both found that diversity of cover stars has improved significantly compared to last year. Fashionista found that 36 percent of the 147 covers looked at featured women of color on the cover (a 17 percent rise from 2015), while The Fashion Spot, which examined 679 covers internationally, found that 29 percent featured women of color on the cover (a 6.2 percent increase from 2015). (The Fashion Spot also reported on size, transgender and age diversity in addition to race.) As Racked points out, however, the runways were still dominated by Caucasian women in 2016, and the uptick in cover star diversity may simply point to more women of color in leading roles in Hollywood.
A local attorney who specializes in handling the legal aspects of insurance claims, Bill Voss of The Voss Law Firm, has seen the devastating impact a winter storm can have on someone. With victims of a storm, that storm is only the beginning of the troubles as physical, financial and legal woes mount. He has some tips that might help you from getting snowed under with legal issues:
A National Weather Service (NWS) WATCH is a message indicating that conditions favor the occurrence of a certain type of hazardous weather. For example, a severe winter storm watch means that a severe storm is expected in the next six hours or so within an area approximately 120 to 150 miles wide and 300 to 400 miles long.
Automobile accidents account for most deaths during a winter storm, followed by exhaustion and heart attacks caused by overexertion. Elderly people account for the largest percentage of hypothermia victims. Many older Americans literally freeze to death in their own homes, or are asphyxiated because of improper use of fuels such as charcoal briquettes, which produce carbon monoxide.
Make sure your home is properly insulated, and weather-strip doors and windowsills to keep cold air out. To keep pipes from freezing, wrap them in insulation or layers of old newspapers, cover the newspapers with plastic to keep out moisture, let faucets drip a little to avoid freezing and know how to shut off water valves. Voss also encourages people to install, test and replace the batteries in their smoke alarms before winter hits too hard.
