Greetings everyone !!
There is a recent trend of people YouTubing their trips down the Mattole Road. Mostly they have a really good time. Most also mention the road conditions and some of the videos will make you sea-sick because they are so speeded up. Some videos start in Ferndale, and go up the Wildcat, down Mattole Road and end in Petrolia, or Honeydew; others make the full Lost Coast trip.
Most of the comments from outsiders are like "must do!", "added to bucket list" and show their desire to be tourists here someday.
This is great. In the absence of oil, timber, sheep and weed, tourism is a part of our economy.
However, it is the internet. And at least one someone, who says they are an old-timer has left more than one negative (and one threatening) comment to potential visitors.
Let me say this about that... This is a beautiful, welcoming, loving community. Don't believe me? Read the google reviews on the Petrolia store ... (example: Lost out of gas, knocked on doors because store was closed "angel woman" opens store and pumps gas -- only one of many - 99% positive).
I don't think these You Tube comments, posted within the last three days, are fair to the community and the people who live here. I was really shocked by the comments and the screen name of the poster. Which of course could be a hack or a prank - if so - it's a nasty one.
I would hope the person/people being so negative reconsiders, perhaps deletes the threatening comment/s and tones down the rhetoric which only makes them look petty.
Search "Mattole Road" and "Petrolia" on You Tube to see the amazing videos. People are giving us a personal and wonderful view of their happiest moments. And don't forget to read the wonderful google reviews on the store :) it will make your whole day.
Most sincerely yours,
