Spatial vs. temporal representation

Dear all,

I wonder how to reproduce Figure 1.2 on page 5 in the following book:

The second subfigure represents two functions: sine and triangle; each
in a separate coordinate sistem (temporal view). I wonder how to plot
the first subfigure (spatial view).
