Based on the last four meetings, and ideas of participants, here are a few comments from your gamemaster :-)

  • I need to watch the quality of examples and make them particular entities (nested doll) rather than generic or abstract descriptions (color and size) - thank you, Cindy
  • We will have fun, active "endgame experience" every time - thank you, Laura! From the four past meetings, making the topic of the day out of ourselves sounds like a good idea, as we did with inscribed polygons

  • Discussions at the end work better for grown-ups than they do for kids. From now on, I will only invite adults to them, while kids can run around or eat (or listen in if they are VERY interested)
  • We have to snack every half an hour, ideally, while doing math. It burns a lot of calories. I will bring small snacks that go pocket-to-mouth even in museums.
  • Speaking of museums, Katherine expressed concerns that stuff in them is already sorted, aggregated, and labeled and may not be ideal for a discovery experience. From now on, we will have outdoors and museum as options, if we go to museums.
  • Uploading pictures is easy for some people and seems hard for others. This needs to be solved with technology. I am discussing the programming of MathTrek at two forums: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/mathgamedesign and http://gameful.org/
  • While we are talking about technology, incorporating Verna's ideas about location sounds like fun! Let's discuss this more and figure out game mechanics for it

Cheers,
