Dear Math Teachers' Circle subscribers,

I'm going to suggest that since this is a large group with many people who don't know each other, when you first post to the group, please also introduce yourself briefly.

I'm Brianna Donaldson, Director of Special Projects at the American Institute of Mathematics and manager of the Math Teachers' Circle Network.

Thanks,
Brianna Donaldson

I teach 7th and 8th grade math. My background is actually science with a BA and MA in chemistry and a PhD in science education. As part of my mid-life-crisis, I wanted to try something different so here I am, teaching math. We are also Foster Parents and have a 8yo adopted son. That is in addition to grandchildren and grown children.

I teach 6-8th Math Strategies and I also have two electives that address different math concepts. I have a BA in Business Management/Accounting and attached to that BA is a Certification to Teach K-8. I am just shy of a few classes from getting my MA. I also hold a license for K-12 Special Education. I have three children from my first marriage: 1-getting married, 1-married, and 1-doesn't want to leave home. I also have 5 step-children and 6 known grandchildren. I got into teaching because I knew that I would be rich...not financially, but because I made a difference in someones life.

My name is Rich Spindler. My education: BS and MS in engineering; MS
and Ph.D. in mathematics. I've been in teaching positions at the
university level, but have also taught in gifted/talented programs for
middle/high school students for quite a few summers, as well as AP
stats at the high school level. I've been helping out in the public
school classrooms for many years, helping, observing and learning. I'm
also serving the public school system in other ways. I enjoy working
with the students at all ages, and want to continue helping them
succeed.

I teach at Bingham High School in South Jordan, UT - but I have two
sections of a remedial Algebra 1 course for sophmores who weren't
successful in middle school, so I teach topics that are taught in
middle school math classes. I am looking forward to getting some new
ideas to implement this fall and getting to know some other math
teachers across the country.

Wait a second - Aren't you Prathusha's mom? Would she like to join
our girls math club this summer? It will be one week, maybe two, in
July. - Kate

My name is Jason Major and I teach in Chicago Public Schools and at the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern.  We are hopefully going to start a math teacher circle here eventually.  My main interest in finding grant money to start math clubs.  This year I received $2,000 to start four math clubs at Chicago schools, and the program was highly successful, and I'd love to find some more money.  If anyone has had any success doing this, I'd love to hear from you.  Thanks!
