It seems strange to join a group and see no discussion; it's almost
like walking into a room where people are just standing around, not
talking to each other. So, I'm curious: What sort of training or PD
are people doing over the summer? I hope to start doing in-service
training for other teachers in the next couple of years, so I'm
interested to see what topics other math teachers are learning about,
and whether they seem interesting and meaningful or not.

As for me, I'll be taking a graduate level mathematics class in linear
algebra and group theory, but I'm taking it as independent study, so I
expect to learn a lot about my own learning process.

My summer is filled with cub scouts, getting my mom's affairs in order, running a summer school site and of course, the trip to Taos for the Teacher Circle workshop. On August 8 and 9, I am being trained on the new common core standards since I am one of the teachers that will be piloted them next year. .

One of the things that I am doing, in addition to the Taos Math Circle, is attending the Summer Math Institute for two weeks & teaching math during summer school. The APS math coaches, UNM, & NMSU put this on every year & this will be the second year that I attend.

I don't have time to "discuss" as I'm finishing up the school year, etc.

See you in Taos,

Jan

My busy schedule will start before summer break is official. I am getting ready to create a wedding cake for my daughter for May 27. Then I will be attending the Summer PD from June 6-17 and at the same time working my Manager's position at Albertsons. If the finances allow, I will be traveling to Michigan to create a graduation cake for my Niece's graduation party in July. I was thinking about going to Taos as well, but I didn't have any additional days left to submit the request. I don't think that Albertsons will able to function with out me...LOL. Truly, I know that the store will function without me, but I couldn't afford to lose the necessary paycheck.
I am looking forward to attending the Teacher Circle seminars in the fall.

I noticed that I cannot create a new thread. Only reply to existing threads. Thus I cannot begin any conversation. I wonder how many are also in this situation.

I'm also interested in what summer PD teachers of algebra are going to as I am planning a session in August for campus faculty.

Hi,
I will be attending a math/science integrated lessons workshop in Florida at NASA the week before the Math Circle with all six of our core math teachers and 4 science teachers. Very excited about this opportunity!!
