I am new to Ubuntu and Mathmap. Ubuntu is packaged with GIMP. I
installed Mathmap 1.0.1 by mistake, and I can't figure out how to
uninstall it.

Mathmap's executable file is in the appropriate plugin folder in GIMP,
however, the rest of the files are in a folder on the desktop where
the original tar file was placed.

I am getting the following error message: "cannot find file
new_template.c"

I want to uninstall MathMap 1.0.1 and install the most current
version, 1.3.x

Any help is VERY MUCH appreciated!

Use your File manager, and delete anything in your home folder,
including the desktop that looks like mathmap

Look in your ~/.gimp-2.6 folder as well

Then probably with a console, go to the gimp plugin folder and delete
mathmap, ypou will probably need sudo to do that.

That should do it

You didn't say how you installed Mathmap, was it via a deb package? If
so use your package manage to "Complete remove" mathmap

I installed via the terminal. I ended up installing/uninstalling
(deleting) twice to get it to work. Now that I have mathmap up and
running, I can't seem to figure out how to see the MathMap console
shown on the MathMap site. I assume the console is a separate thing
from the MathMap that I can use in the GIMP Filters menu. In anycase,
I've finally gotten its basic functionality to work on my laptop
running Ubuntu 9.04.

I'm not sure what you mean by "MathMap console". You should be able
to get a "regular" MathMap window (with filter editor and composer) by
selecting Filters->Generic->MathMap->MathMap.
