Hello -
I just found this Google Group today and have scanned all the posts
after searching for 'moodle'. If I understand correctly, there is
really no documentation on how to integrate MathJax with (into?
alongside?) Moodle. And no one seems to have time to write any.
However, I do get the impression that it is possible, right?

I am using MathJax extensively on my site mathzar.com and it seems to
work well. I am pleased with it so far. I am planning on adding
Moodle to my site in the next month or two and I would like to use
MathJax in it, if possible. I would be glad to write something up on
this topic and share it with everyone, if and when I figure it out.
That is, if someone could get me started and maybe outline some ideas
on where to look.

Thanks,
Alekx

Hi Alex,

You are correct that there isn't any comprehensive documentation on hot
to integrate MathJax with Moodle. The MathJax forums used to be hosted
at SourceForge, and I see this thread

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mathjax/forums/forum/948701/topic/376320

which seems to have been overlooked when we moved the discussions here.
And that links to some discussions at Moodle, where net-buoy described
the work he has done integrating MathJax and ASCIIMathML into Moodle.
You are definitely correct that it is possible, and not all that
involved, as net-buoy and others have demonstrated. Anyway, that
thread, and the linked discussions on the Moodle forums are the place to
start.

But there is no expository, self contained web page laying it all out in
one place. It would be a great asset to the MathJax community, since I
think many people are interested in using MathJax in Moodle. If you
have the time and effort to put into it, I would love to host or point
to such a page in the " Articles, Presentations, and Tutorials" section
of mathjax.org. Please do keep us posted.

BTW, MathZar.com looks great. I'll add it to the list of sites on the
"MathJax in Use" page on mathjax.org.

Hi, Robert -
I will take a look at the discussion you mentioned and see what I can
come up with. If I can get it going, I will make a formal document
and then ask for input to improve it and see if we can get something
other people can use.

Thanks for the positive feedback on my website. I think someone has
already put me on the MathJax In Use page which I greatly appreciate.
My site will be improving significantly soon, if things continue as
planned. I am not happy with the way equations are displayed in
Moodle, so I thought integrating MathJax would make the pages look
much nicer.

I will keep in touch.

Hi, Robert -
I bet you thought the gravity around my office reversed itself and I
got thrown off the planet!
Well, you worried for nothing and I am okay. :-)
I have been working on getting MathJax working with Moodle off and on
for the last few weeks.
I started working on it and couldn't get it to work. I was using
Moodle v1.9.9 and got frustrated and took a break. During that break,
Moodle came out with v2.0 (Nov 24).
Since I planned to upgrade anyway, I gave up working with v1.9. So I
upgraded to Moodle v2.0 this week.

The good news is that I got MathJax to work on v2.0. And it seems to
be working now. It loads really slowly but I will spend some time
researching that problem later. I'm just glad it is working.

I have made a page of instructions that I would like to share with
everyone. What would be the best way to do that? Maybe a Google
Document? I am okay with others editing it to make it better. So,
when you have a chance, let me know.
Thanks.
