What version? I'm using this command line version:

Mathics 1.0
on CPython 2.7.5 (default, Nov  6 2016, 00:28:07)
using SymPy 1.0, mpmath 1.0.0




and get this result:

In[1]:= D[4-x^2, x]
Out[1]= -2 x
