Interesting piece of news. I think "Portal" had a very innovative game mechanic and used it extremely well. Is anyone in this community involved with the Steam for Schools initiative that Valve software is starting?  They are planning on making Portal (and I believe Portal 2) free for use in educational institutions.  Additionally, there is a level editor coming out that will allow students to create their own puzzles / levels for the game.  It is an exciting initiative.  The system specs to run Portal are somewhat steep, but I am hoping that we will be able to utilize the tools and the software.  It would be a great addition to my game design and development course and is being geared toward STEM courses.  I can definitely see great application in the physics classroom.

I have been in touch with Leslie Reed at Valve (les...@valvesoftware.com).  She is very excited to work with educators. 

I'm interested to see how it evolves!
